Video: A tour of Equinix - Where the internet lives

Sunday, August 27, 2006

Cnet recently released a video of a tour of Equinix which is a very massive data storage and colocation for some of the biggest websites on the internet.

Yahoo, IBM, Google, MySpace, Paypal, Goldman Sachs are some of the big names. On the security side there are 5 biometric security checkpoints to gain access to the facility. The amount of power they consume is similar to a suburban community, and the building size is around 3 football fields large. (160,000 sq ft)

A neat part of the video is when they open the doors to the fan rooms which help distribute large amounts of air to cool the facility.
